From Ysgol Bryn Alyn to Cybersecurity

Nathan Parry attended Ysgol Bryn Alyn from 2014 to 2019 and credits the school with helping to shape both his confidence and his career path.

When Nathan first joined Ysgol Bryn Alyn, he had a small group of close friends. As the years progressed, he developed new friendships and connections that have stood the test of time. Looking back, he sees these relationships as one of the most valuable parts of his school experience.

"As I moved up year after year, I found myself forging new friendships, friendships I keep even today. I cannot thank YBA enough for helping to make this happen."

Nathan also remembers the encouragement he received from staff, who continually challenged him to aim higher and step outside of his comfort zone. One of his proudest memories is taking part in the school talent shows and finding the courage to sing in front of his friends and peers.

It was during his time at Ysgol Bryn Alyn that Nathan discovered a passion for computing and technology. This interest would go on to shape his future studies and career. After leaving Ysgol Bryn Alyn, he completed his A Levels at Coleg Cambria before studying Computer Science at the University of Manchester, where he graduated with a 2:1 BSc (Hons).

Today, Nathan works in the cybersecurity industry, helping small and medium-sized businesses protect themselves from online threats. His role involves tackling complex challenges every day and staying one step ahead in a rapidly changing digital world.

"The work is challenging, but I'd be bored senseless if it wasn't!"

Reflecting on his journey, Nathan believes that the determination and resilience he developed at Ysgol Bryn Alyn have been instrumental in his success.

"I thank Ysgol Bryn Alyn for helping me to develop the strength to push myself further and further."

Nathan's story is a wonderful example of how discovering a passion at school can open doors to exciting opportunities. From performing on the school stage to protecting businesses in the digital world, his journey demonstrates the value of confidence, perseverance and embracing new challenges.

Nathan's Advice to Current Pupils

Believe in yourself and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. The opportunities you take today may help you discover a passion that shapes your future. Work hard, keep pushing yourself, and remember Ysgol Bryn Alyn's motto: Dim Heb Ymdrech (Nothing Without Effort).
