At Ysgol Bryn Alyn 2008 – 2012
Alumni Spotlight: Sian Griffiths

At Ysgol Bryn Alyn, we know that every student's journey is unique, and Sian Griffiths' story is a powerful reminder that determination, resilience and the support of others can help you overcome life's challenges and achieve your ambitions.
Sian attended YBA between 2008 and 2012. She openly reflects that school was not always easy. During her time at YBA, she experienced significant personal loss, losing both her nana and her dad while she was still a student.
Despite these challenges and the ups and downs she faced, Sian persevered and left Ysgol Bryn Alyn with 11 GCSEs.
"Thanks to the support of Mrs Jones and several other staff who believed in me, even when I didn't see it or believe in myself."
After leaving school, Sian enrolled on a Level 1 BTEC in Public Services, achieving a Merit grade, before moving on to study Level 2 Performing Arts, where she achieved a Distinction.
Music and performing had always been a passion, and one of the highlights of this time was appearing on ITV News as part of the Dragonsong Youth Choir, gaining the opportunity to perform and develop her confidence through music.
Alongside her studies, Sian built valuable experience through a variety of volunteering roles, including positions in retail, a community café and health and social care settings. These experiences helped shape her desire to support others and make a difference in people's lives.
Today, Sian volunteers with a Housing Justice team, supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and domestic violence. Through this work, she has seen first-hand the challenges many people face and the importance of compassion, understanding and practical support.
More recently, Sian has embraced another important role, becoming a mother to a baby girl. While life has temporarily taken a different direction, her long-term ambitions remain firmly focused on helping others.
Her goal is to become a Children's Mental Health Social Worker, supporting young people, particularly those with additional needs, to achieve their potential and believe in themselves.
Sian's message to current students is a powerful one:
"Even if you struggle in an educational setting, you can still achieve your goals. With time, understanding, effort and support, you can get where you want to be."
She hopes that her own experiences will encourage young people who may be facing challenges to keep believing in themselves and never give up on their ambitions.
"I believe so many young people can achieve and succeed wherever and whatever they choose to do."
Sian's story is one of resilience, perseverance and hope. It reminds us that success is not always a straight path and that setbacks do not define your future. With determination, support and a willingness to keep moving forward, anything is possible.
We are incredibly proud of Sian and wish her every success as she continues her journey towards a career supporting children and young people.
Once a YBA'er, always a YBA'er.
