At Ysgol Bryn Alyn, we often remind our students that success comes in many different forms, and Tina Mannering's story is a wonderful example of that.

Tina admits that school was not always her favourite place and that the traditional academic route was not necessarily the path for her. Becoming a mother at the age of 19 meant she needed to find opportunities that worked for both her family and her ambitions.

What followed was an inspiring career built on determination, hard work and an entrepreneurial spirit.

After working as Cook in Charge at Glynne Nursing Home, Tina became self-employed and founded Club Cars Taxis in Gwersyllt. Over the next 16 years, she grew the business from a small operation into a successful local company serving the community.

Not content to stop there, Tina then took on a new challenge, transforming Bradley Village Shop from a small front-room shop into a thriving convenience store, which she successfully ran for a decade.

Alongside her business ventures, Tina dedicated herself to serving her local community. She has been a Wrexham County Councillor for nine years and recently completed a year serving as Mayor, a role she describes as a privilege and an honour.

Education has remained close to her heart throughout her career. Tina has served as a governor at Ysgol Bryn Alyn and, after completing her term, continued her commitment to supporting young people through her role as a governor at Ysgol Heulfan, where she serves today.

Life has also presented significant challenges. In 2019, Tina suffered a serious horse-riding accident, breaking her back in three places and being left with a disability. However, true to her character, she refused to let the accident define her.

"I don't let this stop me. I grit my teeth and carry on."

Reflecting on her journey, Tina wants current students to understand that there is more than one route to success.

"I just want children to know they can succeed in life without A stars. They just have to work hard and keep opening doors. Success will follow. Don't take no for an answer. There is always another route."

Tina's story is a powerful reminder that qualifications are only one part of the picture. Resilience, determination, hard work and the courage to create opportunities for yourself can take you further than you ever imagined.

From business owner to community leader, school governor to Mayor, Tina has demonstrated that success is about finding your own path and never giving up when challenges arise.

We are incredibly proud of everything Tina has achieved and the positive impact she continues to make within our local community.
