Ysgol Bryn Alyn Students Inspired at Wrexham Future Doctors Event
Students from Ysgol Bryn Alyn recently attended the annual Wrexham Future Doctors Event, held at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital Medical Institute, where they gained a fascinating insight into careers in healthcare and medicine.

The event, organised in partnership with local schools across Wrexham and Flintshire, aims to inspire the next generation of medical professionals by providing students with first-hand experiences and guidance from those working in the field.
Throughout the morning, students heard from a range of healthcare professionals, including junior doctors, anaesthetists, GPs and specialist consultants, who shared their career journeys and offered an honest insight into life in the medical profession. They also had the opportunity to hear directly from medical students and foundation doctors currently training at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, learning about the pathways into medicine and the dedication required to pursue a healthcare career.

The highlight for many was the series of hands-on clinical skills workshops, where students practised medical techniques using realistic training equipment and manikins. Among the activities, pupils learned essential CPR skills, experienced taking blood samples and explored how medication can be delivered directly into bone marrow in emergency situations. These practical experiences helped bring medicine to life and provided an insight into the skills used by healthcare professionals every day.
Students also learned about opportunities available beyond GCSEs, including the Wrexham Medic Programme, which supports aspiring medics as they prepare for university and careers in healthcare. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session, allowing students to engage directly with medical professionals and seek advice about future career pathways.

Staff praised the students for the enthusiasm, curiosity and maturity they demonstrated throughout the visit, embracing every opportunity to learn and engage with the world of medicine.
The annual Future Doctors Event is delivered by the Medical & Dental Education Department and forms part of wider efforts across North Wales to encourage and support young people considering careers in healthcare and medicine.
